This book deeply influenced the way I understood quilting as an act of care, survival, and remembrance. Collins writes about Gee’s Bend quilting in connection to motherhood, community, grief, and Black life, which helped me think about quilts as more than functional objects. Her writing showed me how quilting can preserve memory, protect life, and hold emotional and historical significance across generations.
